Cosmic Era

The new calendar adopted during the age of space exploration in which Gundam Seed takes place. The Cosmic Era calendar was adopted by the United Nations at the end of the Reconstruction War, and the final use of nuclear weapons during the Kashmir conflict was chosen to mark the first year of the new era. Simultaneously with the adoption of this new calendar, the United Nations launched a new space development program. Construction of the fourth-generation international space station Yggdrasil, which had been interrupted by the global war, resumed in C.E. 9, and the following year the foundations of the lunar city Copernicus were laid.

The story of Gundam Seed begins on January 25, C.E. 71, almost one year after the outbreak of open war between the PLANTs and the Earth Alliance. The story of Gundam Seed Destiny begins two years later on October 2, C.E. 73.
